Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir first opened its doors in 1998 with 6 children. At the time it was situated in Creggan adjacent to Seán Dolan’s GFC. The school remained on this site until 2001 when it moved to its current site at the Gasyard. The Department of Education granted the school official recognition in 2002. Since its inception Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir has continued to go from strength to strength. Currently we have almost 135 children attending the Gaelscoil, 26 attending the Naíscoil (which was granted Statutory Recognition by the Department of Education in 2009 and is now fully funded) and 12 children at our morning  Sure Start programme for 2 year olds which is based in the Gasyard.

We are a comprehensive, all ability school with a child centred ethos that is committed to providing high quality education rooted in strong community values - the wide benefits of bi-lingualism are evident in our confident, high achieving children. We offer support for parents at all stages of their child's education.

We have strong links with other schools in the city and throughout Ireland. We are an active part of a community of 40,000 children who are being educated through Irish throughout the country. We provide an extensive range of activites outside school hours, and we are regular participants and prize winners in drama, music and dance festivals throughout Ireland.

  • We use a child friendly immersive method that ensures that your child becomes fluent in Irish very quickly.

  • we use standardised regular assessment so that we can set individual targets for every child in the school - these show that `children leave Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir with a very high standard of English, Maths and Irish (bilingual children are provided with an educational headstart in life.)

  • We provide an after school package for every child between P1 and P7 with an emphasis on music, art, sport and ICT.

  • We run homework clubs for our children , to help parents who have little or no Irish.

  • We provide ongoing support for parents throughout the school year.
